The benefits of composting for the environment are numerous! And, we can all help to educate and spread the environmental benefits within our community, our schools, and even within our families right down to our children!
You might ask, “What can I do and what do I do?”
Well, non-profit organizations such as the Keep America Beautiful and U.S. Composting Council are making it even easier for us to participate by educating our communities through their unique partnership that was established recently. They have partnered in an effort to increase waste reduction, improve soil structure and water quality, and reduce soil erosion.
By simply “recycling” or composting our “organics”, we can each play a part to reduce landfills and create a healthy environment at the same time!
Here’s what the KAB and the USCC have in store:
Environmental Benefits of Composting and Recycling:
National nonprofits Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and the U.S. Composting Council (USCC) today announced that the organizations will join forces on efforts to increase waste reduction through composting education and activities nationwide.
Under the agreement, KAB and USCC will share educational resources and seek to identify collaborative opportunities that benefit their constituencies and the general public by promoting awareness of the important role composting plays in waste reduction, improved soil structure, improved water quality and reduced soil erosion.
“Our organization’s goal has long been to engage all people in reducing waste and recycling or reusing the products that touch their lives on a daily basis,” said Matthew M. McKenna, president and CEO of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. “Composting organic residuals can significantly reduce landfill impacts while creating a healthier ecosystem. This partnership represents a win-win for communities and the environment.”
“We are very excited about the strategic alliance formed between KAB and the USCC.” said Michael Virga, Executive Director of the USCC. “Teaming up with KAB to share resources and promote our complimentary messages of diverting organic materials from the waste stream and into compost will be of great benefit to local communities and the environment.” Original KAB & USCC Press Release.
Thankfully there are organizations such as the KAB and USCC that aid our local communities by educating us on the environmental benefits of composting. Be on the lookout as they roll out their education initiative, and we will keep you posted here at Compost Soup on how you can participate in their upcoming composting activities.
If you have an upcoming local activity that you would like to share for your community, be sure and leave a comment below with the details. Also, “like” our post to spread the news about the KAB and USCC alliance so others can participate in the “benefits of composting for the environment” initiative!
